The 12 mobile games to go on holiday this summer

A mashup of titles from the great era of the arcade, the sequel to the superb “Monument Valley”, a fake Japanese role-playing game, a space fight, a musical puzzle game, a duel of insults in Hollywood or classics Sega: here is our selection of games for mobiles and tablets to download this summer.
The first Monument Valley was one of the most beautiful games of 2014 – and we are not talking here only about those who play on mobiles. His suite takes up the principle (with some subtleties and more) and, even if the effect of surprise is over, not less satisfying the heart and mind. The goal will be again, rotating and manipulating certain elements of each of the sumptuous paintings, to open a path to our character. Here, as in M.C. Escher’s, the architectural rules fade to allow the illusion of optics to become our best friend. If two platforms seem to touch each other, no problem, we can walk from one to the other, the general philosophical-ludic idea is that the world does not have an absolutely stable reality regardless of the perception we have . To note: this time, it is about the voyage (initiatory) in fourteen chapters of a mother and her daughter. We are still shaking.

Arkanoid vs Space Invaders
On iOS and Android

Time is up for videogame mashups. After the amazing wedding of Puyo Puyo and Tetris, here is the one of Arkanoid and Space Invaders with, as guests at the wedding, a whole swarm of heroes from the most famous games of their joint publisher Taito, from Darius to Bubble Bobble through The New Zealand Story. And this one is almost as successful. For the veterans of Space Invaders, a small mental adjustment is needed: here, it is no longer necessary to avoid the projectiles of the aliens but, on the contrary, to position themselves at the end of their trajectory to send them back thanks to the “racket” of Arkanoid . With its time-limited mini-challenge levels and syncopated pace, Arkanoid vs. Space Invaders is a treat. We just regret – which we do not really like – that the first tens of levels (out of 150) are perhaps a bit too easy.

Hoggy 2
On iOS and Android (Raptisoft Games trigger ), free-to-play. To appear on Android. Also available on Mac and PC
Hoggy 2 is not that the most choupinou – we think Kirby is to say – games of the summer. It is also the worthy descendent of a beautiful line of fun combining platform and reflection so that it is at least as important to know how to plan its movements than to execute them correctly. A family that includes titles such as Solomon’s Key, Qwak or Toki Tori and which, more than pure platformers, adapts perfectly to touch screens. In addition to happily rising to the level of its glorious predecessors, the Raptisoft game allows everyone to design and share their own levels, whether they are nice or almost mean. Hoggy 2 is big.

Resynth
On iOS (Polyphonic LP),
Since at least Meteos and Lumines (or more recently Sentris), we know that the musical game and the puzzle game can be combined. The all-fresh Resynth from Australian studio Polyphonic LP is a new piece to bring to the record with its puzzle-level levels stripped on which we trime by shaking – the head, that is to say. As with the great Tetsuya Mizuguchi (Rez, Child of Eden and, therefore, Lumines), ambition is synaesthetic. The student Resynth does honor to the master.

Framed 2
On iOS (Loveshack),
